1. Make sure your answers and comments are correct, concise, relevant, helpful, and not duplicative.
  • Do not cut and paste large blocks of text.

  • Answers that duplicate other existing answers but also contain additional information are acceptable.

2. Always respond with a complete sentence, not just a single letter or just a link. You must always restate the question as part of your answer.
  • For example, if a user asks "What is the coldest layer of the atmosphere?", your response should restate the question like this: "The coldest layer of the atmosphere is the mesosphere [http://eo.ucar.edu/basics/wx_1_b.html]".

  • For multiple choice questions, it's better to not include the letter in your answer.

  • For true or false questions, reply with the original statement and then TRUE or FALSE. Additional information can also be provided.

3. Answers must be in your own words.
  • Draw on your own knowledge, expertise, and experience, and feel free to express your own comments, advice, and opinions.

  • Your answers must consist of content that is not copied from other sites. Not copied content is anything that is in your own words or consists of one sentence or less of common knowledge. Common knowledge is defined as anything that a person would likely already know or could easily find in general reference sources.

  • Links should be provided as confirmation that an answer is correct, not as an indication that content has been copied or that our answers are not unique. Links will be utilized by moderators and experts to help confirm that an answer is correct and to verify that text has not been copied, and therefore will not be visible to all visitors. Please do not provide links to Q&A sites.[1]

5. Things you can't say:
  • Do not ask users to rate your response. Don't ask for the options to a question.[2] Don't say "Please Wait". If you need to send a comment such as "please wait", please send it as a note.

6. Keep only one expert page open...
  • ...but don't keep it open if you're not available to accept a conversation. You do not have to log out.

[1]Links are not required for answers to trivial questions such as: How are you? What is your name? 2 + 2 = ? etc. Links are not required for math questions, but you must show how the problem was solved.

[2]You can ask for the options when the question contains NOT or EXCEPT (i.e. "Which of the following is not...").
