A transformer is an electrical machine that

1. transfers electrical energy from one circuit(primary circuit) to another (secondary circuit) through inductively coupling.
2.Increase or decrease voltage or current level in secondary side w.r.t. primary side, depending upon the transformer construction.

AND ONE THING IS IMPORTANT IT DOES -NOT WORKS FOR "DC ELECTRICAL SIGNAL"-ONLY FOR ALTERNATING ELECTRICAL SIGNAL.
