Spiral-shaped bacteria can be either rigid called spirilla, or flexible called spirochetes (singular spirochaete). Spherical bacteria are called cocci.

Allen and rose are discussing saprotrophs. Allen says saprotrophic fungi decompose the remains of animals and plants. Rose say saprotrophic fungi remove excess lignin from paper pulp. Both are correct.
