User: A line passes through the point (1,4) and has a slope of -5. Write an equation for this line

Weegy: Slope-intercept form: y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept You already know the slope is -2, so the equation so far is y = -2x + b. [ Now solve for b by substituting the point (10, -1) for x and y into the equation respectively: y = -2x + b (substitute 10 for x and -1 for y) -1 = -2(10) + b (multiply) -1 = -20 + b (add 20 to both sides) 19 = b ANSWER: The equation of the line is y = -2x + 19. ]
