Why did the United States use military force against Afghanistan in the wake of the 9/11 attacks? The Taliban attacked the neighboring country of Pakistan. The government was becoming too friendly with Russia. The Taliban government would not turn over bin Laden. Afghanistan had chosen to leave the United Nations.
