When Chelvanayakam refused the women present led by Mrs. Amirthalingam implored him to leave. Chelvanayakam reluctantly left with the women volunteers.
A team of Satyyagrahis led by Kayts MP VA Kandiah a lawyer himself changed positions and sat with their backs to the entrance. The others sat in rows facing the entrance. The Satyagrahis realised that the Police were going to use force and bodily remove them. ]
