If f(x) = 4x + 2 and g(x) = x - 4
h(x) = f(x) + g(x)
h(x) = 4x + 2 + x - 4
h(x) = 5x - 2

= x^2*3x + 6x*3x + 9*3x - x^2 - 6x - 9
= 3x^3 + 18x^2 + 27x - x^2 - 6x - 9
= 3x^3 + 17x^2 + 21x - 9
