The division of geography into human and physical undermines the scientific basis of the discipline because it creates a false dichotomy between the natural and human worlds. In reality, these two worlds are inextricably linked, and human activities have a profound impact on the physical environment. By separating human and physical geography, we are ignoring the complex interactions between the two and making it more difficult to understand the complex problems facing the planet
