User: side effects of dialysis

Weegy: Healthy kidneys remove excess fluid and wastes from the body. [ When kidneys fail, dialysis is needed to do the work of the kidneys. Hemodialysis is performed at a health care facility and involves having the patient's blood flow through a filter that removes wastes and extra fluid. Peritoneal dialysis can be done at home. This procedure uses the lining of the abdominal cavity, the peritoneal membrane, as a filter to remove wastes and excess fluids. In hemodialysis, low blood pressure is the most frequent side effect, occurring when fluid is removed too rapidly or too much is removed. Symptoms include dizziness, lightheadedness and nausea. In peritoneal dialysis, the most common and most important side effect to avoid is a bacterial infection. This can result if bacteria outside the body get into the peritoneal lining or the bloodstream. Bloating is a common feeling patients experience with peritoneal dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis can lead to a hernia because insertion of a catheter can weaken abdominal wall muscles. Skin problems can develop from either type of dialysis. The insertion site must be kept clean to prevent infection and skin irritation at the site is common.Dialysis can cause sexual dysfunction including erectile dysfunction and vaginal dryness. Another side effect from fluid removal is muscle cramping. Psychological side effects are common with dialysis. Many patients feel depressed or anxious. Dialysis is time-consuming and not as effective as normal kidneys are, leaving a dialysis patient with less energy and time for normal activities. Read more: Side Effects of Dialysis | eHow.com ]

Grammatically, "grapple" is the infinitive, the basic form of a verb meaning to struggle, in or as if in wrestling. "Grappling" is the present participle of that verb. A GRAPPLE (noun) can also mean "an iron shaft with claws at one end, usually thrown by a rope and used for grasping and holding, especially one for drawing and holding an enemy ship alongside." "Grappling" would then be the present participle, the act of employing a grapple.
