Re your example: that answer would not have helped the user who posted the live question; so I think we need to be consistent when answering. If we seek options in live questions, we should seek them in archive questions, and vice versa (if only because presumably users with an account can check to see what answers may have come in later). Might it be useful to seek definitive instructions from Weegy admin on this matter?

Janet17, if the answer given by the expert is not one of the options, the user will most likely not use it as an answer, and instead seek out a different answer.
Like I said, there are some cases where we cannot find the original options. For this particular question, I received this question too and believe me it took me like 2-3 minutes to find if there are options. The user is left waiting for his or her answer, which should not be happening. That’s why we have Pass the Conversation button. I gave up. Malektih probably did the same thing, but ended up giving Pacific Ring of Fire, which happened to appear on most results on Google. Can we blame the expert? We should not assume they didn’t extend effort, and it’s not that I am tolerating it. I’m just giving it the benefit of a doubt.
As what I’ve said, after all Weegy is a Q&A site.

Also, we should be more careful in editing live conversation. We do not need to confirm them if they are not the best answer. Only the best correct answers are confirmed and will appear on Weegy.
Our job as moderators is to verify the accuracy of the answers based from the source given that is relevant to the question. We should not be editing and then flagging to make the answer irrelevant. We should only edit if the answer matches the options and we should only flag if the answer is completely wrong. I already emailed Weegy admin before to clarify things. I think you should email them too and send this link.

And of course, as what I said, I also do editing most of the time to put in options because most of the time, most experts (including me) are providing the exact correct answers. There are just some few cases like this, which we should be considering.
I'm not saying what you do to this particular case is wrong. I'm just saying that it's not fair to edit the conversation, put in the options and then flag the answer (although it is not wrong). This case happens very rarely.

We appreciate your concern regarding this issue. The discussion is very positive and all opinions make sense.

Our policy has been that warnings should be given when an expert isn’t following guidelines, a flag means than an answer is incorrect. In the case where an answer is correct but isn’t one of the options, we think it would be best to flag the answer and add an answer that matches one of the options. A comment should also be added to indicate that the answer is correct but has been flagged because it doesn’t match the options. If an expert continues to provide answers that do not match options, then they should be given a warning. We think this will provide the best experience for our users.

Thank you for this admin. I think this resolution makes the best sense. Perhaps it could be made clear in the "Help" section?
