Tim has $2.25 in coins. He has four times as many Quarters as he does Dimes. If the number of Nickels are one half of the number of Dimes, how many of each does he have. Hint; for your equation, convert $2.25 to 225 cents.

Given:
q = 4d
n = 1/2 d
Total value in cents
25q + 10d + 5n = 225
Substitute q and n:
25(4d) + 10d + 5(1/2 d) = 225
100d + 10d + 2.5d = 225
112.5d = 225
Solve for d
d = 225 / 112.5 = 2
Find q and n
q = 4d = 8
n = 1/2 d = 1
Answer:
Dimes: 2
Quarters: 8
Nickels: 1
