Explain the major aims of British raj policy in India
Weegy:
The Raj began in 1858, when the rule of the British East India Company was transferred to the Crown, and lasted until 1947, when the British Indian Empire was partitioned into two sovereign states, India and the Pakistan. [ The three main decision makers were the Secretary of State for India, a member of the British cabinet, based at India Office in London. He was was formally advised by the Council of India. The chief official in India was the Viceroy, based in Calcutta and after 1912 in Delhi. He was supported by about 1000 senior members of the Indian Civil Service, who effectively rules in local areas. The third triumvir (after 1895) was the commander in chief of the Indian Army, which was largely officered by Britons. The three men generally cooperated, although the explosive confrontation between Viceroy Curzon and General Kitchener led to Curzon's resignation in 1905. Since the British army often rotated its professionals in India, there built up in Britain itself a large base of men and their families with experience or connections in India. They comprised a vocal lobby in Britain on behalf of the Raj, and were a power in the Conservative Party; a key spokesman was Winston Churchill. ]
