User: how did slavery in african and mulism socities differ from slavery in the americas?

Weegy: Slavery in any part of the world is the same. I live in Indonesia, so I suppose that counts as a Muslim society. Here, housemaids are not the housemaids you may know in the Western world. [ In Indonesia and other Muslim countries (including most of Africa and Middle-East), housemaids are slaves. They live under the same situation: - they live in the house of their masters which is, most of the time, a small 1x2m bedroom, - they eat the leftovers - they pretty much do everything from cooking, cleaning up the house, laundry, up to taking care of the masters' children - they are not appreciated - they have no future prospects, they just live to serve But they live better lives than slaves of centuries past due to the fact that they are paid (however small) and they do have the choice to leave. ]

Slavery in african and Muslim societies differ from slavery in the Americas by:
Slavery in the Americas was based on race and was hereditary.
Slaves in African culture were given rights, could earn their freedom, and not subjected to same inhumane treatment that Europeans afflicted on their slaves.
Slavery in Africa was not hereditary, so children of slaves were free.
