Weegy: As the cell operates, the zinc electrode will dissolve into the solution as zinc ions and the copper ions will become solid copper and deposit themselves on the copper electrode, making the electrode thicker. [ [ The zinc ion in the zinc sulphate solution and the copper in the copper electrode are not involved in the chemical reaction. After operating for a long time, the current produced by the cell will diminish as the concentration of the zinc sulphate solution increases and that of the copper sulphate solution decreases. ] ]
