A verbal is a verb form which acts as another part of speech. There are three types of verbals. A gerund acts as a noun. A participle acts as an adjective and an infinitive can act as a noun, adjective or adverb.

Janet, I know your source says that a verbal acts as a noun or adjective but an infinitive also acts as an adverb. This is stated further down in your source.
