why did the populist lose the 1896 election?
The Populist party mainly supported issues that benefited farmers in the South, West, and Midwest. They also supported bimetallism. [ They lost because William Jennings Bryan, Democrat, was also a viable option for Populists, [ thus tearing apart support, as the Democratic Party was a bigger and more well-known party so it could draw in more votes. William McKinley, Republican, then went on to win the 1896 election. ]
