Why it is said of The Canterbury Tales that it presents a cavalcade of fourteenth-century English life? Firstly, a cavalcade is a procession of people travelling on horseback, just as the pilgrims did. Secondly, all sections of 14th century society were represented in Chaucer's cavalcade: nobility, clergy, merchants, common people, men and women.
