Find minimum and maximum mass per coin
min mass = 7.0 × (1 0.0214) = 7.0 × 0.9786 = 6.8502 g
max mass = 7.0 × (1 + 0.0214) = 7.0 × 1.0214 = 7.1498 g
Convert total mass to grams
total mass = 1 kg = 1000 g
Find greatest possible number of coins (coins as light as possible)
N_max = floor(1000 ÷ 6.8502) = floor(145.988…) = 145
Find least possible number of coins (coins as heavy as possible)
N_min = ceil(1000 ÷ 7.1498) = ceil(139.86…) = 140
Difference
Difference = N_max N_min = 145 140 = 5
Answer: 5.
