Is it time for tort reform?
Tort reform is a hot-button issue in the United States. Those in favor of tort reform argue that it will help cut down the number of frivolous or pointless lawsuits, which will allow courts to spend more time on fewer cases. [ Proponents also claim that tort reform will protect manufacturers, physicians, and other people and businesses who are often included in a personal injury lawsuit. It is said that tort reform will allow these people and businesses to pay less for malpractice insurance, thus allowing them to pass their savings on to customers.
Those who oppose tort reform, on the other
hand, argue that tort reform changes the justice system without really fixing anything. Instead, opponents say tort reform laws prevent injured people from receiving the appropriate compensation for their injuries, while manufacturers and other defendants are allowed to cut corners without facing a lawsuit. www.rotlaw.com/legal-library/what-is-tort-reform/ ]
