Question and answer
ways leisure has informed through social classes and economic classes
Some leisure activities are quite expensive while others are virtually free. To play polo one needs a horse, polo field, and other expensive elements. To a large extent that's been true of golf, tennis, swimming, and collecting 100 dollar bills. [ Playing basketball only requires a ball and a school playground with a hoop. Once established, activities often develop a class association. The rich play polo while the poor play basketball. Although there's a good deal of overlapping, those class associations often stick and lead to recruiting which is limited to the class which is seen as
affiliated with the activity. The same thing can be seen in other sorts of activities. Traveling among retired people is often associated with more well-to-do retirees while poor retirees can't afford the activity. ]
