A tsunami, a series of giant inundating water waves (generally in an ocean or a large lake), is caused when some underwater disturbance displaces a massive amount of water. The disturbance might be an earthquake, a volcanic eruption or other underwater explosion (including detonations of underwater nuclear devices), a landslide, a glacier calving, or a meteorite impact.
