The search for Pancho Villa allowed the United States to try out new military equipment in a real-life situation. They improved the command structure and tested out how to move troops - even hospitals and kitchens. The army on the ground learned how to work with planes in the sky, which was another innovation. Wireless radios were used for the first time. This allowed the United States to be better prepared when the US entered World War I.
