y^2 + 4y + 4 = 7
y^2 + 4y - 3 = 0
a = 1, b = 4, c = -3
b^2 - 4ac = 4^2 - 4(1)(-3) = 28
y = (-4 + sqrt28)/2 = -2 + sqrt 7
or y = (-4 - sqrt28)/2 = -2 - sqrt 7
