Question and answer
why do manufacters, stores and service estadlishments offer coupons or rebates
Increase their customer base. Many companies realize they will ultimately increase their customer base. [ The thinking goes that when a customer tries a product at a reduced price they may very well like it so much that they look to purchase the product for many years to come. Encourage brand uncertainty. Companies are trying to get customers to switch from their regular brands to the brand that is being offered. The objective in this case is to get you to start using, and paying for, their product on a no discount basis in the future and to stop using your previous regular product. Build
brand awareness. This type of promotion is often designed to promote a new product line or service that people have never tried before. Also, awareness of a new product, or even a well established product, is likely to increase for the duration of the discount period. Companies find that in the long run this is actually an economical way of advertising their product and that loyalty will be boosted as people who have purchased the discounted product are appreciative and therefore more likely to continue using the product in the future. Allows companies to collect data on customers. This is more likely if the customers have Store Loyalty cards that offer discounts on selected purchases in the store. For example, if they discount a store brand item lower than the popular brand they can tell if the customer switched to the store brand in future purchases, or have just purchaed the product when the price was discounted. ]
