Question and answer
which chemicals are unbalanced to cause bipolar and psyhcosis
Bipolar disorder is a condition of severe mood swings that can affect energy levels and the ability to carry out daily activities. [ No direct cause has been associated with the condition, but several theories suggest that substances and chemicals in the brain play a vital role. Scientific evidence indicates differing levels of those chemicals in patients with bipolar disorder, compared with unaffected patients. If this is true, better treatment options could be found for bipolar patientsNeurotransmitters Neurotransmitters are chemicals that take messages from nerve cells that monitor
activities in everyday life. There are two kinds: inhibitory neurotransmitters and excitatory neurotransmitters. Inhibitory neurotransmitters calm the brain and help create balance, and excitatory neurotransmitters stimulate the brain. Proteins and Glutamate Certain proteins in the brain help cells and neurons survive. The cAMP response element binding-protein (CREB) helps activate protein kinase-A, which regulates sugar and glycogen levels in certain parts of the brain. One theory suggests that decreased CREB levels are associated with decreased volume in the brains of people with depression, insinuating that cell breakdown might contribute to depressive episodes in bipolar patients. Glutamate helps process the signal exchange between neurotransmitters and receivers. A "Science Daily" report on postmortem evaluation of the bipolar brain shows that patients with bipolar disorder tend to have high levels of glutamate in the brain, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, which hosts the cognitive functions. Choline Choline is another neurotransmitter, one that helps transmit acetylcholine, which excites muscles in the body. The Brian Explorer website states that research demonstrates lower levels of choline in bipolar patients. There is also a suggested imbalance in activity between those transmitters and the catecholaminergic systems. ]

can hormone inbalances as in polycstic ovarain syndrome cause depersonalisation and out of body experiences? what medical stuff can do it to u
Weegy: you should check yourself for investigations, the hormonal inbalance doesn't act usualy this way, The exact cause for depersonalization disorder is not known. Though it does seem to manifest after a traumatic life threatening event. [ Having other health issues such as schizophrenia or anxiety disorders may contribute to these episodes. Studies are still being done, but they suspect DD is somehow linked to a chemical imbalance in the brain. There is not a specific medicine to treat depersonalization disorders. However it has been shown that some anti depressant medications may help to relieve the patient of symptoms. Prozac and Klonopin are the more popular medications used in depersonalization disorders. Mental health counseling also plays a large part in the treatment of this disturbing disorder. A professional can assist you in finding ways to lessen the episodes and provide reassurance that you are not "going crazy". There are support groups where you can connect with other sufferers and many find this to be very helpful when dealing with the disorder. Last but not least, educate yourself about depersonalization disorder! They say that "knowledge is power" and it is certainly true in this situation. Learning why you slip into depersonalization episodes might help you to curb the occurrence of them. The more you learn and understand about the disorder the less frightening it will become. ] (More)
