what are some of the similarities between word and excel? what are some differences
All three are powerful bits of software capable of saving data in electronic form.
All 3 are published ny Microsoft and run under various versions of the Windows operating system
All three are proprietary. [ Meaning that the software code that makes them up is copyright and cannot legally be changed or examined or copied by anyone.
The first two are a plus, the third is arguably a minus.
Differences are in the design of the products and what they are meant to be be used for.
Excel is very good at handling numbers and calculations and for making graphs of that data. The other two can do
that to a much lesser extent but nowhere near as well or as effectively as Excel.
Access is good at handling lists of information, expecially if that information has to be linked and kept up-to-date. For example a list of schools with the contact information for the Principal, Secretary, and possibly the teachers, plus a link to all the pupils in those schools with the pupils addresses and phone numbers. You could do that in Word or Excel, but it would be very difficult and perhaps almost impossible to keep up-to-date.
Word is supreme at presenting information in a stylish professional way. It can use information from the other two and make a very smart document with numbers, lists, pictures and drawings, all formatted in a desired text and consistent throughout the document. The other two could do a tiny part of that but the results woould be abysmal and it would take forever.
