What's the length of one leg of a right triangle if the length of the other leg is 24 units and the length of the hypotenuse is 25 units?
Using Pythagoras' theorem:
Square on hypotenuse = 25 x 25 = 625.
Square on known leg = 24 x 24 = 576.
Square on unknown leg = 625 minus 576 = 49.
Square root of 49, and therefore the length of the unknown leg = 7 units.
