Narration is a rhetorical mode used to tell a story, communicate a series of events, or describe a scene. One major purpose of narration is to keep the action moving in a forward direction. Fictional writing especially uses narration as a rhetorical mode. The purpose of this rhetorical mode is to show the reader what happened.
