No, the idea of going to war generally does not excite young people today in the same way it did during World War I. Modern perspectives on war emphasize its devastating consequences, both in terms of loss of life and the long-lasting societal impacts. Additionally, advancements in communication and access to information have made people more aware of the complexities and horrors of conflict, leading to a more cautious and critical view of war.

Explain how the Franco-Prussian war kicked off the alliance system in Europe.

The Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871 resulted in the defeat of France by Prussia (Germany). The war's aftermath led to the unification of Germany under Prussian leadership and the weakening of France's power in Europe. This imbalance prompted other European powers, such as Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, to form alliances as a means of safeguarding their interests and maintaining a balance of power. These alliances laid the groundwork for the complex web of alliances that eventually contributed to the outbreak of World War I in 1914.

Write a brief dialogue that demonstrates the principle of being ‘other’ oriented: you're focused on the needs of the other person more than you're focused on yourself. If you're worried about coming across as very intelligent, or you're worried about how your language sounds to this other person, you're not going to be able to hear the answers to your questions, nor are you able to focus on really understanding what the other person is saying.

For example, in a dialogue, one person can demonstrate being 'other' oriented by actively listening to the other person's concerns, asking open-ended questions to encourage further conversation, and showing genuine interest and empathy towards their experiences.
