Let x and y be the two numbers, we were given:
xy = 12348
x/y = 7, so x = 7y
Replace x in the first equation:
7y*y = 12348
7y^2 = 12348
y^2 = 12348/7 = 1764
y = ± sqrt (1764) = ± 42
x = 7(± 42) = ± 294
These two numbers are 294, 42 or - 294, -42.
