Weegy: 2x^2 - 3x = 5

2x^2 - 3x - 5 = 0;

x(2x - 3) = 5

(x + 1)(2x - 5) = 0;

x + 1 = 0; x = -1;
2x - 5 = 0; 2x = 5; x = 5/2

x = {-1, 5/2)

2 is the value of 3x - 4, if 2x +1 = 5.
2x + 1 = 5;
2x = 5 - 1;
2x = 4;
x = 4/2;
x = 2;
3x - 4;
= 3*2 - 4;
= 6 - 4;
= 2

Write a direct variation equation that relates x and y. Assume that y varies directly as x. Then solve. If y = 36 when x = 9, x = 13 when y = 52.
Let y = kx;
36 = 9k;
k = 36/9;
k = 4;
y = 4x;
when y = 52;
52 = 4x;
x = 52/4;
x = 13

The solution set for the equation, given the replacement set y = –5x + 8 is {(4, –12)}.
when x = 4;
y = -5*4 + 8;
y = -20 + 8;
y = -12
