how do weekly readings in a course be apporach
think this is a good amount as well. Since first posting, I've gone over my syllabi and pared down. One was OK with minor changes, the other needed some cutting. [ I realized that I can, duh, actually include some of the reading content in my lecture as opposed to assigning it. Some of the YouTube vids have moved from reading on their own to being shown in class. I need to fill the time, with 2.5 hrs per class. I've also learned that I need to structure my time differently for class sizes. This one class has 16 students (big for my program) and I need to give them time to talk. I've been
in the situation of feeling like I'm rushing students' responses, rather than enjoying a discussion, because I thought I 'had' to cover a certain amount of material. On the other hand, my other class has <5 and I've got to fill that time.
I get very good evals, but behind the scenes, it has taken me awhile to feel I am in control of different size classes, letting students talk, and to realize that I don't need to teach them everything I know. If they wanna know more, they can do some research and write a paper on it. I need to remember that. ]
