Question and answer
HRM Case 2 dirty works Ans 1. The job in chicken processing plant is like a manufacturing assembly line as it is organized around a moving conveyor system, it’s a steel cable with large clips that carries dead chickens. This work in dirty, grimy, and unsafe . As it is moving conveyors of trash and dirty this job is unsavory in which first step is of skinner. Skinners use sharp instruments to cut and pull the skin off the dead chicken. Towards the middle of the line are the gut pullers. These workers reach inside the chicken carcasses and remove the intestines and other organs. At
the end of the line are the gizzard cutters, who tackle the more difficult organs attached to the inside of the chicken’s carcass. These organs have to be individually cut and removed for disposal. The work is obviously distasteful, and the pace of the work is unrelenting. On a good day the chain moves an average of ninety chickens a minute for nine hours. So this job is competent. Ans 2. As the job in a chicken processing plants is a continuous work due to which no one can vacate a post to use the bathroom or for other reasons without the permission of the supervisor and taking an unauthorized bathroom break can result in suspension without pay is a major problem which can be overcome by placing a substitute to each worker and provide relief for a while or there can be rotation of substitutes for an hour. Another problem in this job is being unpleasant and dirty and this are dangerous and unhealthy also. As workers have to fight the live birds when they are first hung on the chains . These workers are routinely scratched and pecked by the chickens. This problem can be solved by providing rubber gloves, jackets, masks to the workers so that they do not get any physical scratch and pegged by the chicken . Also it is very difficult to breath in this plant , so worker can be provided proper mask and ventilation should be provided for proper breathing . Chicken processing plant should not be in conjusted place , there should be proper place to each worker for their work so that they shouldn’t cut themselves or their coworker with the knives, scissors, and other instruments they use to perform their jobs. The worker should be provided proper medical facility and vaccination. Ans 3 Yes, the dirty, dangerous, and unpleasant jobs an inevitable part of any economy because of the changing nature of the work in the country and the shift towards service sector and professional job . Millions of people work in gleaming air-conditioned facilities, but many others work in dirty, grimy, and unsafe settings. For example, many jobs in the recycling industry require workers to sort through moving conveyors of trash, pulling out those items that can be recycled. Other relatively unattractive jobs include cleaning hospital restrooms, washing dishes in a restaurant, and handling toxic waste.
