User: What is an atom?

Weegy: I believe that the Definition of "absolute 0" is the temperature of matter when the atom is completely still and has no vibration. We have found that when matter gets colder that the vibrations of the atoms decreases. [ Humans, however have never been able to reduce the temperature of anything to absolute 0, so no one knows what would happen if if that state of matter occurred. I don't believe that atoms/matter have an independent existence. Actually, matter may not exist at all. In one of the answers, someone mentioned the "string theory", and said that he believed it. I recently watched a program on physics where the string theory was mentioned. The speaker said something that was an education to me about the new breed of physicists. He said that the string theory was "beautiful" and "sublime" and I could see his face glow when he spoke about it. Then he said that the string theory only had one fault, that there was no data to support it. He went on to say, "We usually like to have 1 or 2 facts to hang a theory on, but this theory has no facts to hang it on." I just mention this to awaken people to the actual fact that when scientists talk about theories, they must be taken with a big grain of salt. I think that it was one of the ancient Greek philosophers that said, "I would rather have 1 theory and 1 fact than 1000 theories and no facts.". We think that there is such a thing as matter because of our bodies sense data which is then interpreted by the mind. The Adveda Vadentists have investigated sense data more and better than any one I have heard or read and would not say that it is real. To me, the closest answer to your question is found in The Bible in the book of Genesis. "In the beginning was God". I firmly believe that everything exists in the mind of God and that we are continually held in existance because of His love for us. I firmly believe that if God chose to not hold the universe in existence, everything would instantly cease to exist. It's a good thing that God loves us and does not have the faults that we humans have.
