Triton, one of Neptune's many moons, is distinguished in part by the fact that it has a retrograde orbit. It is the only major moon in the solar system with this type of orbit. What does this tell scientists about Triton?

Triton, the largest of Neptune's moons, has a retrograde orbit, and is the only major moon in the solar system with this type of orbit. This, and the fact that Triton seems to have a similar composition to that of Pluto, suggests to scientists that Triton formed in the Kuyper Belt and was captured by Neptune's gravity.
