This State many may call Fascist; if this indeed be the Fascist State, then I, who believe in it, proudly declare myself a Fascist!” Reports of this debate reached every corner of Spain but Calvo Sotelo’s words were widely misconstrued, as was his call to the Spanish armed forced to be prepared to rise to the defense of Spain against anarchy.
