a) vo = 0 - (-9.80 m/s^2)(3.00s) = 29.4 m/s. Initial velocity is 29.4 m/s.

b) Find the value of the y coordinate at time t=3.00s.
y - y0 = 0^2 - (29.4 m/s)^2 divided by 2(-9.80 m/s^2) = 44.1m. The ball reached a maximum height of 44.1 m.
