why is it important for a security professional to know specifics about the particular target environment to which they are assigned?
It is extremely important for a security professional to know the particular environment to which one is assigned for numerous reasons. [ First knowing the environment well can help alleviate any confusion when installing new or updated security equipment. Second, understanding the environment allows for the security professional to have the ability to correct any security flaws that may exist
and this in return, can reduce possible threats and liability issues. Third, a rapport can be established with the employees who be able to offer assistance if needed.
An experienced security professional can prepare themselves for a great number of challenges and opportunities they have never before encountered by constructing a list of all possible threats and security related concerns. In addition, one should initially do a preliminary walk through check of the target environment; know what security features need to be updated or added; and any assets that need to be protected. Moreover, it is a good idea to become familiar with policies that may have been established for a crisis evacuation. By doing this, there may be outdated regulations and codes that need to be updated and changed for liability reasons. Steven Limbaugh, Yahoo! Contributor Network ]
