The Tyler Model is a linear model of curriculum planning developed by Ralph Tyler. The first component in the series is the selection or determination of aims and objectives. The second component suggests that learning experiences must be selected to achieve specified objectives. The third component is the organization of content to achieve the objectives. The fourth component is evaluation of the objectives.

The Wheeler Model builds upon the work of Tyler. The cyclic model shows the interrelatedness of each of the components. Wheeler believed that each step is interconnected and that evaluation can take at any time or place in the development process. The Wheeler model emphasizes learning experiences, rather than the learning outcome as emphasized by Tyler.
