User: What does E=MC2 mean?

Weegy: This is the most famous math formula in the world! E = the total energy; M = Mass of an object; C2, (C squared) is the speed of light times itself. So the total energy in an object is equal to it's mass times the speed of light squared. To bring this into the "real" world, (something you can wrap your mind around), there is enough energy in your little finger, if it were released all at once, to blow up a city block, or to light a small town for several days! But the only known way to release all this energy is with a nuclear bomb. A nuclear power generating station extracts a high percentage of the available energy as heat over a long period of time. The heat is used to boil water, and the steam drives turbines which drive generators.
