Weegy: Yes, they are necessary. There are some people who works late at night and can only watch tv when they got home. [ All of the people don't have a fixed schedule, yet they want to know the current issues in the world that's why there's 24/7 news channels. ]

Weegy: to me, media outlets have a more specialized form of free speech. when you are professionally delivering information i think that comes with a special responsibility that non-professionals, (the public) should not be bound by. [ i think when an individual says something deceptive, or even slanderous, unless damage is proven it should be left alone, this is a loss that comes with this freedom. but when professionals state things as fact that arn't, or state things in an intentionally misleading way, i think there should be recourse. they do have an editorial page... news reporting media have a responsibility to accurately report and represent events through non bias language and photos. if there is question in the event, it should be made clear, if there are differing opinions as to what happened, that should be made clear. excessive reporting giving undo pressence to a story, the press becoming part of the story, badgering people, and delving into the personal lives of people that have no positive public imput should not be fair game. it is not the role of the press to endorse political canidates, to form public opinion, to take stands....i guess this would make their jobs boring. think of those that might seek this job..someone who likes to gossip, tell stories, and excite people.. unfortunately, there is alot of grey area, but i wish there was some kind of non-bias board that would rate individual stories and actually score accuracy. something that really chapped my hide was during the bush administration..every picture you saw in the paper had his mouth hanging open in some retarded looking distorted way...i'm sure the president of the United States doesn't have any decent photos available..only ones that make him look like the antichrist..we are subjected to a lot of subtle mind swaying. ]
