What the difference of the central core of the brain compared to the cerebral cortex. Why are both important?
The brain stem, the oldest part of the brain, is the central core of the brain. Its structures direct automatic survival functions. [ The cerebral cortex is a structure within the brain that plays a key role in memory, attention, perceptual awareness, and thought. ]
