It's generally recommended that athletes consume approximately 30 percent of their daily calories from fat.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, most athletes should eat 60 to 70 percent of their calories from carbohydrates, 12 to 15 percent from protein and 20 to 30 percent of their calories from fat.

Reduce calorie intake by 3,500 is the best way to lose one pound. Because 3,500 calories equals about 1 pound (0.45 kilogram) of fat, you need to burn 3,500 calories more than you take in to lose 1 pound.
