What is accomplished by externally placing paddles on the chest or internally by opening the chest and exposing the heart to the view of the surgeon with paddles being placed directly on the heart?

Weegy: efibrillators when placed externally on the chest and used can restart a heart that has stopped beating. Most doctors don't try to open the patient up to do this because it can be very dangerous and take too much time. (More)
