•Define indigenous religion, and describe at least one aspect of indigenous religions that exists in a similar form in a traditional mainstream religion.
Weegy: The thought, in many old and indigenous religions, that human sacrifice was necessary to gain the attention of, or to get closer to the gods/god. [ In modern Judeo-Christianity, the crucifixion and (alleged) resurrection of Jesus is portrayed in the Bible and even in the words of Jesus as a blood sacrifice in order to create atonement for sins. Thus, the old, savage act of sacrificing a human to the gods/god in order to make him/her/them act in a certain way, is still alive and well, in spirit, as it was back in the days of the ancient religions who practiced this act. Religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to the supernatural, and to spirituality.

Religion is an important part of life for many people. Even people who are not all that religious by nature consider it to be important. The question is why do they feel this way? The reason is largely down to the belief that society needs religion. As a society we benefit from our collective religious beliefs. In fact there are many people who would argue that we could not function without religion.

The biggest reason that society needs religion is to regulate behavior. Most of the laws that we follow today have their basis in religious teachings. There is considerable debate as to whether or not religion is required to make us good people but what is beyond dispute is that the rules for what is acceptable for society are largely based on religion. Without religion we would almost certainly live in a different type of society, it can be debated whether it would be better or worse but it would certainly be different. Since a major change like that would be impractical it is important that we maintain religion.

Define religion Explain why it is important for you personally to understand the beliefs of other religious groups
Weegy: Understanding religious beliefs other than one’s own is a key element of tolerance, since faith traditions often define a significant part of a person’s identity. [ In the United States, the spectrum of religious diversity is a part of our culture as a whole, and religions can sometimes be at the center of political debate. This can happen when certain laws impact the way a person practices his or her religion. For example, Jehovah’s Witnesses are not permitted to recite the Pledge of Allegiance as it violates elements of their belief system. Another example of religion clashing with politics is at the forefront of debate right now. Great controversy has swirled around the planned construction of Park 51’s Islamic Cultural Center in lower Manhattan. Resistance to building mosques in communities is not new. Many communities around the United States, such as in Sheboygan, Wisconsin or in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, have tried to prevent or forestall the building of mosques in their towns. These incidents have sparked much conversation about the ideas of religious freedom and tolerance. To introduce this topic to younger students, an exploration of religions and of religious freedom can help. ] (More)

Explain whether you agree or disagree with the notion that religion and science can coexist.
Weegy: I disagree that that religion and science can coexist. The two are incompatible. While religion makes claims about the supernatural, science damns the concept of the supernatural. [ Science relies completely on evidence and fact, whereas religion is almost completely based on faith and conjecture. They contradict each other in the most basic sense. ] (More)
