contact lenses improve lives. Contact lenses are example of a
Contact lenses are considered medical devices and can be worn to correct vision, to enhance vision[1] or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. A contact lens, or simply contact, is a thin lens placed directly on the surface of the eye. [ Contact lenses are considered medical devices and can be worn to correct vision, to enhance vision[1] or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. In 2004, it was
estimated that 125 million people (2%) use contact lenses worldwide, including 28 to 38 million in the United States.[2] In 2010, worldwide contact lens market was estimated at $6.1 billion, while the U.S. soft lens market is estimated at $2.1 billion.[3] Some have estimated that the global market will reach $11.7 billion by 2015.[3] As of 2010, the average age of contact lens wearers globally was 31 years old and two thirds of wearers were female.[4] People choose to wear contact lenses for many reasons.[5] Aesthetics and cosmetics are often motivating factors for people who would like to avoid wearing glasses or would like to change the appearance of their eyes.[6] Other people wear contacts for more visual reasons. When compared with spectacles, contact lenses typically provide better peripheral vision, and do not collect moisture such as rain, snow, condensation, or sweat. This makes them ideal for sports and other outdoor activities. Contact lens wearers can also wear sunglasses, goggles, or other eyewear of their choice without having to fit them with prescription lenses or worry about compatibility with glasses. Additionally, there are conditions such as keratoconus and aniseikonia that are typically corrected better by contacts than by glasses ]

Scientific contact lenses improve lives. Contact lenses are example of a in science?
Weegy: Contact lens wearers commonly report a sensation of 'dryness' - a symptom that often results in reduced wear time or discontinued use. [ In most cases of contact lens-induced dry eye, objective signs are lacking and a diagnosis is based on symptoms alone. However, it has been demonstrated that intolerant contact lens wearers show significantly reduced tear stability and volume compared to successful wearers. A variety of conventional strategies have been employed to alleviate contact lens-induced dry eye including use of artificial tears, changing lens parameters, or preserving tears with punctal plugs. However, novel treatment strategies using anti-inflammatory or immune modulating agents may also be effective. A recent pilot study, for example, offers evidence that cyclosporine may be beneficial in contact lens intolerant patients (1). ] (More)

Weegy: Answer: Contact lenses improve lives. Contact lenses are an example of an? Functional lenses A New Approach to Monitoring Health As envisioned, the lens would be worn daily, just like regular contact lenses. [ But instead of, or in addition to, correcting vision, the lens would monitor the wearer’s glucose level through their tears. Much of the information that can be obtained through blood testing is also accessible on the surface of the eye. The functional lens is being designed to sample eye fluid, analyze it, and transmit the information to a reporting machine. A tiny radio transmitter embedded in the lens will handle the information transfer. Once fully developed, the technology could be used to replace virtually any screening or diagnostics that currently depend upon blood draws. Additionally, the researchers who are involved in the project envision a future in which contact lenses deliver medicine directly into the bloodstream through the cornea. —Kristin Tolle, Director, Natural User Interface, Microsoft Research Connections blogs.msdn.com/.../functional-lens-promises-to-i.. ] (More)
