Prolactin
Weegy: Prolactin (PRL), also known as lactotrope, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PRL gene.[1] Prolactin is a peptide hormone discovered by Oscar Riddle and important later work was done by Henry Friesen. [ Although it is perhaps best known for its role in lactation, prolactin already existed in the oldest known vertebrates—fish—where its most important functions were probably related to control of water and salt balance. Prolactin also acts in a cytokine-like manner and as an important regulator of the immune system. Prolactin has important cell cycle related functions as a growth-, differentiating- and anti-apoptotic factor. As a growth factor binding to cytokine like receptors it has also profound influence on hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and is involved in the regulation of blood clotting through several pathways. In summary, "more than 300 separate actions of PRL have been reported in various vertebrates, including effects on water and salt balance, growth and development, endocrinology and metabolism, brain and behavior, reproduction, and immune regulation and protection".[2] Prolactin acts in endocrine, autocrine, and paracrine manner through the prolactin receptor and a large number of cytokine receptors.[2] ] (More)

Exocrine glands are glands whose secretions pass into a system of ducts that lead ultimately to the exterior of the body. So the inner surface of the glands and the ducts that drain them are topologically continuous with the exterior of the body (the skin). Endocrine glands, in contrast, place their secretions into the internal environment - the blood. ............

Weegy: It may be a factor. The most common reason for bleeding twice in one calendar month occurs when a normal period begins on the first or second day of the month, [ and then another arrives at the very end; because the normal cycle length (from the first day of one to the first day of the next) ranges from 23 to 35 days, this can allow two perfectly normal periods to arrive in the same calendar month. Most of the time, however, when women talk about having two periods in a month, they are not referring to this circumstance. Often they mean they are starting a period every two weeks or so - certainly less than the 23-day interval that is considered within the normal range. ] (More)
