what would be the procedure for a bomb scare or gas leak in a residential care home
[ ] immediately, the following will be in effect in the event of a bomb threat involving Auburndale Senior or Elementary Schools. [ [ If a bomb threat is received, we have no choice but to assume the threat is real and to proceed on the assumption that a bomb has been planted.
The primary consideration is the safety of the children and personnel. Extreme caution must be exercised at all
times. All procedures must be followed in an orderly, prompt, but careful manner.
A. The person receiving the call should attempt to obtain as much information as possible in regard to:
- Which schools
- Location of the bomb
- In what area of the school
- Time of detonation
After the caller has completed the threat and you have received all information possible, do not hang up the phone, place the line on hold or set receiver aside, do not disconnect the line even if the caller has hung up.
The person receiving the call should immediately notify the building principal or his/her secretary, who will then immediately use another telephone line to call Wood County Sheriff using the 911 emergency number.
The building principal or his/her secretary in his/her absence, will then signal a fire drill either by public address system or by manually setting off a fire alarm signal. All personnel shall immediately evacuate the building. The principal and/or his/her secretary will then notify the superintendent of schools and also report the call to Central State Telephone Company (569-4801), remember to report the line is still open.
B. All children are to immediately evacuate the building following the regular fire drill exits. Once the principal has determined the building is clear, each teacher should then take roll to determine that all children have been evacuated. Elementary children are then to be escorted by their teachers to the St. Mary's Church parking area. The secondary children are to be escorted to the St. John's Lutheran Church parking lot with both groups remaining in their respective areas until an all clear signal is given or the children are transported home.
