Write a paragraph in which you explain how nationalism contributed to the United States entering World War 1.
The U.S entered WW1 with a declaration of war on April 6 1917 .The main reasons being . [ [ Germany launched unrestricted submarine warfare on February 1 1917 , America severed all diplomatic relations with Germany , but would still not be drawn into the war , but pursued a policy of ` Armed Neutrality ` for the next two months . Three American cargo ships were sunk in March ,increasing the
pressure on Wilson . The final straw for the U.S was the Zimmerman Telegram , Germany attempted to exploit Mexico`s long - standing grievances against the United States . Arthur Zimmerman , Germany`s Foreign Secretary , sent a telegram to Mexico offering support for any action undertaken to reclaim territory lost to the U.S in the 1800`s , which included Arizona and Texas . The telegram was intercepted by the `Entente ` ( Britain , France , Russia ) were known as the Entente . Germany & Austria were known as the Allies ) many people get this fact muddled . . The contents of the telegram were revealed , it had an immediate impact in America , and large numbers of people who had been strongly committed to isolationism now became in favour of war . So perhaps that could be called nationalism, as people saw German involvement in American affairs as a national threat . ] Thank you and have a nice day! ]
