What are some of the key characteristics of an embedded OS?
Weegy: Features of Embedded Operating System 1-Embedded systems are designed to do some specific task, rather than be a general-purpose computer for multiple tasks. [ Some also have real-time performance constraints that must be met, for reasons such as safety and usability; others may have low or no performance requirements, allowing the system hardware to be simplified to reduce costs. 2-Embedded systems are not always standalone devices. Many embedded systems consist of small, computerized parts within a larger device that serves a more general purpose. For example, the Gibson Robot Guitar features an embedded system for tuning the strings, but the overall purpose of the Robot Guitar is, of course, to play music similarly, an embedded system in an automobile provides a specific function as a subsystem of the car itself. 3-The program instructions written for embedded systems are referred to as firmware, and are stored in read-only memory or Flash memory chips. They run with limited computer hardware resources: little memory, small or non-existent keyboard and/or screen. Common features The following table provides an overview of the features common to HP thin clients based on operating system using the following legend 3. Feature is fully functional and operates the same as the desktop environment. 2. Feature is partially functional and does not operate the same as the desktop environment. 1. Feature is barely functional and requires a highly skilled administrator to enable it. ] (More)

• In what ways does the Linux® setuid feature differ from the setuid feature in standard UNIX®? In what ways is the Linux® implementation preferred?
Weegy: On Linux systems, you can successfully chmod u+s $some_directory, but instead of forcing the ownership of new subdirectories and files to be the owner of the containing directory (and setting subdirectories u+s as well) as you might expect, [ the system just ignores the setuid bit. Subdirectories and files continue to inherit the UIDs of their creating processes, and subdirectories are not setuid by default. ] (More)

What are the benefits of using virtualization?
Weegy: There are many benefits to consolidating the number of Windows servers in your environment by taking advantage of the many different server virtualization products (i.e. VMWare and Windows Virtual Server) on the market. [ These include: 1. Lower number of physical servers - you can reduce hardware maintenance costs because of a lower number of physical servers. 2. By implementing a server consolidation strategy, you can increase the space utilization efficiency in your data center. 3. By having each application within its own "virtual server" you can prevent one application from impacting another application when upgrades or changes are made. 4. You can develop a standard virtual server build that can be easily duplicated which will speed up server deployment. 5. You can deploy multiple operating system technologies on a single hardware platform (i.e. Windows Server 2003, Linux, Windows 2000, etc). ] (More)

What experiences have you had with virtualization in the past?
Weegy: As you might have read on the Windows for Your Business blog, today Karri Alexion-Tiernan announced that the User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) Release Candidate (RC) is available for download. [ UE-V, which was first announced in April, will be included in MDOP and gives users a consistent and personal Windows experience by allowing them to change their device and keep their experience. With UE-V it doesn’t matter if they are using a locally installed desktop or a desktop hosted in the datacenter using VDI, a physically installed or virtually deployed application. The UE-V RC provides performance improvements such as the ability to process settings packages concurrently. This helps your settings get applied quicker and speeds up application launch. There are also refinements to some of the settings locations templates for Office 2010, making them more accurate in which files and registry keys to roam. For example, the new templates will capture the position and size of the Office application windows on the desktop. These updated Office templates also fixed some settings that were not roaming, such as if the page navigation check box in Microsoft Publisher. We also included support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 RTM, since we know some of you have downloaded it from the Volume License Service Center (VLSC), TechNet Professional Subscription, or MSDN Subscription, or are using the 90 day evaluation. The UE-V RC also includes a few new features that we heard you wanted based on conversations at TechEd North America and Europe, and submissions to the Connect feedback page. One of the new features I want to highlight is the ability to manage synchronization using security groups. While there are a lot of scenarios where you want the user’s experience to roam (using a VDI desktop when you travel to another office, getting a new desktop as part of your PC refresh cycle, etc.), you told us that there are a few scenarios where you don’t want a user to ...
